Things to check before doing cpr
- Call to the nearest hospital or health facility which has ambulance service. Let them know that there is someone in need of their service and provide them with the location details of where the incident took place.
- If there is a crowd that is starting to form, try evacuating it. Make sure there are not many people around the victim to ensure that that affected person has ventilation.
- Place them in a more comfortable position, try positioning the affected person by holding their head and tilting it slightly at the back.
- Check for their heartbeat. Try placing your ears over their chest or you could probably place your fingers against their pulse point. If you don’t listen to the person’s heartbeat even after 10 seconds. Then you proceed to do conduct cpr
Steps to follow while doing cpr for adults
- Place your hands on the affected person’s chest and imagine that there is a line between it. Place the heel of your hand in aiming to put pressure through it. Place your other hand on top of the hand. Try placing your strongest hand down first and then proceed to place the other hand on top. Try centering your weight over your hands
- Push hard using the heel of your hand and make sure it goes to a depth of at least 2 inches. It is important that you do this step fast to ensure that you really put the pressure in the chest. Try putting your entire body weight on the person’s chest. This step is known as the compression.
- Open the victims mouth and try giving air to them. This is also known as the rescue breath. The most effective method’s ratio would be 30 compression followed by 2 rescue breaths.
- Check if there is any response from the person or not, if you notice no chances then proceed to repeat the same cycle twice until the patient wakes up or until the appropriate help arrives.
Steps to follow while doing cpr for infants
- An older adult should first shake the shoulders of the infants and try ticking the bottom of their feet. This is to see whether or not that toddler is actually responding or not. If there is no reaction after sometime proceed to carry on with the cpr.
- Place 2 fingers at the centre of the infant’s chest
- Gently put pressure towards their chest by pressing it towards their chest. This compression is enough for a baby. You should perform two compressions per second. Try to follow this rate when you are giving compression.
- Give rescue breathing to infants just like how you would to an adult. It would be easier to do this because they are still small. You should conduct 30 chest compression and proceed with 2 resume breaths. Check if there is any reaction from the baby.
- If the baby choked onto something, it would throw it out at this point. If needed proceed with this process until you you see an evident reaction or until you receive medical assistance
